
Charles is board-certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine. For 30 years Charles served as Commander, 3rd Combat Support Hospital, Nuremberg, Germany, in the US Army Medical Department and completed his service as the Chief Consultant to the US Army Surgeon General. After retiring from active duty, he served as Chief of Hematology-Oncology at Kaiser Medical Center, Honolulu. Charles has been an active supporter of patient choice for end-of-life care as a member of Doctors for Dignity. Since January 2019, he has served as Program Director for Kaiser Hawaii’s Medical Aid in Dying Program.
