New to Aid-in-Dying Care
The Academy is the leading national research, information, and training organization establishing evidence-based best practices in aid-in-dying care. We educate clinicians across the full scope of this work — from pharmacology and prognosis to medical ethics, hospice policy, palliative care, family conflict, and the roles of bedside volunteers and doulas.
When a terminally ill patient chooses aid in dying after fully exploring their options and goals of care, they deserve the best care possible. We make sure their clinicians have the medical and psychosocial expertise to provide it.
As Medical Aid in Dying comes to New York on August 5th, 2026, End of Life Choices New York and the Academy have collaborated to make sure patients, families, and clinicians are ready. Our partnership offers clinicians guidance on the clinical and pharmacological details of aid-in-dying care, helps families navigate end-of-life decisions, trains volunteers to provide bedside support, and supports health systems with policy and ethics consultation.
When a terminally ill patient is considering or completing aid in dying, they deserve the best care possible. After thorough conversations about all their options and the patient’s goals of care – and alongside continued palliative care as their illness evolves – we make sure patients who wish to proceed have access to clinicians skilled in both the medical and psychosocial aspects of aid in dying.
How we help
For clinicians and healthcare organizations: The Academy provides comprehensive clinical training led by experienced aid-in-dying clinicians (online and in person), guidance on institutional policy and compliance, and consultations for palliative care and hospice teams.
For patients and families: End of Life Choices New York provides education and support to navigate all end-of-life options, a referral network of experienced aid-in-dying clinicians, and guidance throughout the decision-making process.

Begin with our Seven Essentials Series
This series trains frontline clinicians on the fundamentals of clinical aid-in-dying care of patients considering or completing aid in dying. The course provides the latest evidence-based best practices in aid-in-dying medicine.
Course content is free to view. Continuing education units and completion certificates are available for purchase. Completing the series earns the Academy’s Certificate of Expertise in Aid-in-Dying Care.
