The Academy of Aid-in-Dying Medicine
and
End of Life Choices New York
Welcome
New York Clinicians
New to the Care of Patients Considering Aid in Dying.
The Academy is the leading national research, information, and training organization working on evidence-based clinical best practices in aid-in-dying medicine.
Please watch this page as we produce a specific Guide to Aid-in-Dying Care for New York Clinicians. Our guide will escort you step by step through our information, so that by knowledge, discussions, and, when appropriate, direct mentoring, you can become skilled and comfortable in caring for patients considering medical aid in dying.
The Academy informs and educates clinicians about aid-in-dying care, from evidence-based pharmacology to assisting families in conflict; palliative care to the work of bedside volunteers; medical ethics to hospice policies; doctors to doulas.
The Academy does not advocate for states to pass new laws, or for patients to participate in aid in dying. We believe that when a terminally ill patient is considering aid in dying, they deserve the best care possible, whether or not they take medications to die. If, after thorough discussions about all options and goals of care during a terminal illness, a patient does wish to proceed, we assure that their clinician will be skilled in the medical and psycho-social details of the aid-in-dying day.
We welcome you to contact us with information about your clinical work, your interest in aid in dying, and how we might help you. Please contact us with any questions, suggestions, or information, at AADM@AADM.org.
If you have a specific patient-care question, use our Clinicians Hotline to provide our experienced aid-in-dying clinicians with the details.
We look forward to working with our New York colleagues to develop the Guide to Aid-in-Dying Care for New York Clinicians. Meanwhile, feel free to tour around our website. Two good starting points are:
