Anita Hannig, PhD

Anita Hannig (Ph.D.) is writer and researcher whose work explores shifting societal attitudes toward the end of life. Anita is a leading voice on death literacy in the US, appearing on podcasts and events concerning Americans’ changing relationship with death. Her 2022 book, The Day I Die: The Untold Story of Assisted Dying in America, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Awards. Anita has written for PBS, Newsweek, Cognoscenti, The Conversation, The Seattle Times, and others. Previously, Anita held an appointment as associate professor of anthropology at Brandeis University, teaching classes on medicine, religion, and death and dying.
